Ahhh Lupe Fiasco. How we’ve missed you on the hip hop scene.
From the first time I heard Kick Push, I was hooked on Lupe and everything he released after that. It’s hard to believe he’s only two albums deep, but according to his Twitter account we can expect a new album around December 2009 entitled Lasers. On that note, what is it with Lasers and the music industry recently?
Food & Liquor to me gave mainstream hip hop a much needed kick in the pants and brought us back round to what we really loved about the genre. In my opinion not many albums have managed to pull off what that did. The Cool, his second realease was good, but not Food & Liquor good. Riddled with some fairly average/pop-sounding production and an almost angry tone towards the scene, I feel like it let him down a bit.
Homie seems to be back though. Still as political and socially conscious as ever his new album titled Lasers is a dig at being a nerd in high school and not quite fitting in- which we’ve heard before.
Supposedly the new release is going to feature appeareances by Kid Cudi and Bun B which should add some nice flavor to the mix, and more exciting for me is that producer Soundtrakk (the brains behind the best beats on Food & Liquor) will be featured on more tracks this album. This makes me happy.
But enough from me, the video below explains what this is all about, aptly entitled The Lasers Manifesto.
Check it out, pick up the album in December, and stay tuned to NITC for some exclusive tracks before release date.

P.s the song playing in the background of this video is called Shining Down, the first single from the album available on iTunes now.

Yo! Thanks for this. It’s good to be reminded about Nivin in the Crates.
[...] I am quite a fan of Lupe’s brand of infectious pop hop, and this is a nice little drum and bass rework of Paris Tokyo from his 2007 album ‘the Cool’ (courtesy of London based DJ Clart). Nothing like a cheeky little bootleg to get the floor moving. Oh yeah, apparently Lupe has a new album on the way soon. [...]
I have rediscovered Lupe recently. I have both albums and I’m actually pretty gutted that I missed him at the big day out this (?) year.
I’m a pretty big fan of the ’social commentary’ style of rap. As opposed to the bitches and hoes stuff. Which is why that teaser for the lasers album intregues me so. And Lupe’s such a lyrics man that he can make a really powerful point without sounding like a preacher. Someone once said (probably someone like Spike Lee I think) that rap was the black CNN. A way for news and politics to get around the ghetto.
I kind of like that idea.
Lupe could be the black Anderson Cooper.
