While sorting out bills and finances today I was listening to my favorite Michael Jackson song I Can’t Help It from his Off The Wall album, which to me, is about as close to perfection as you will get.
I Can’t Help It is not only famous however for just being dope - it has been sampled about a million times by various artists, spanning a few genres. I mean come on, that bass line….

This got me thinking about my favorite use of the sample, and it is really no competition. De La Soul’s Breakadawn is a perfect lesson in how to steal a sample and pay huge respect to an artist at the same time. From their third album, Buhloone Mindstate, Breakadawn combines samples from Smokey Robinson, the Bar-Kays, Pointer Sisters and of course the King of Pop - need I say more?
Lets get down to business - sit back relax and hit play.
