Tinker Hatfield Interview - Nike Air Max

This ones for all the fashion and design kids. A great interview with Tinker Hatfield who brought the "visible air" to the Air Max line from Nike.
In the clip he talks about how he started off doing architecture for Nike and took his influence for the new Air Max from the George Pompidou Centre in Paris. He also speaks about how so many people were against his idea, which eventually spawned into one of the most important shoes for Nike

Very inspiring video, check it out.

Real Mad Hectic Pile Sneaker

Firstly, OMG.

Now that we have that out of the way, Real Mad Hectic have come out with a line of absolutely sick minimal-style sneakers made with a terry cloth material and in a range of crazy colours. I had never heard of Real Mad Hectic before this, but right off the jump I am a fan.

New Video: Gnarls Barkley - Going On

Back again with another dope video. This time from one of my long time favorites Gnarls Barkley. Going On is from their latest album, The Odd Couple, which so far has spawned some great tracks.

This video was shot in Jamaica and not only is it a great clip, the track is really good to. It shows a definite advance in the Gnarls Barkley sound and a lead into something very different but great at the same time. When "Crazy" dropped the world definitely stood up and took notice, which was good to see as both Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse had been putting out quality music long before their collaboration. You can definitely hear how Danger has stepped up his game and there is a lot more soul to their previous computer-generated soul tracks. Don't get me wrong, St Elsewhere was a fantastic album and will probably do much better than The Odd Couple, but you've got to appreciate artists such as these two stepping up to a sound that you can tell means a lot to them personally.

50 Cent Gets His Chain Stolen

During a performance of Candy Shop in Angola, 50 Cent gets his chain stolen right off his neck mid-song! This is some pretty funny shit and a MUST watch. I don't know whats funnier, the ballsy-ness of the guy jumping on stage stealing the G Unit head honcho's chain, or 50 pushing the security guard into the crowd, then jumping in after him!

Only in Africa aye?

Throw Back: Dilated Peoples

I was at a friends house a couple days ago and he was rocking some Dilated Peoples which I totally forgot about up until that point. So naturally I went back through the archives and found some of their stuff and it reminded me of how dope they were.
It seems like every track they released had some of the best beats on it, which makes sense since their main producers were Alchemist, Evidence and Dj Babu. You can't complain with that line up.

I'm not going to give you a full back ground on who they are if you don't know, but you can check their wikipedia page here. I will drop some of my favorite tunes from them though.

In my search of some pretty cool videos, I thought I should put this in.
Yeah ok so it IS KayNay West, but the video is very well done. Reminds me of some Kill Bill stuff. Check it out.

Video: Justice - Stress

I've always been a huge fan-boy of Justice, and the new video for "Stress" does not fail to deliver.

Looks like its been shot in the ghetto's of France, it reminds me a lot of the art work of Photographer / Graffiti artist JR.

Anyway, check the vid

Video: G-Unit in New Zealand / Australia

This is some pretty funny shit. After reviewing it would seem the only clothes they packed where white tee shirts. The prank on Whoo Kidd is pretty good though. Check it out.

NZ Music: Sarah Brown - Hands

I first heard this song while lacing my Nikes on Juice TV (yeah, does anyone still watch that?). Firstly, its definitely not like other things I have posted up on here. Its not hip hop, it doesn't have a beat at all, and its very very mellow. But I think its great, and I think this girl has a lot of talent.

Sarah Brown is from the south island of NZ and plays guitar and sings. I don't really know what to call her sound as I'm no where near an authority on popish stuff, or as her myspace describes it, "other". But if I had to label it as something I would say it is Brooke Fraserish but with less whining.
Anyway, I've attached the video "Hands" to this post and you can hit her up on her myspace here.

Ghostly Swim, and being lazy

Ok, so thanks to all of you who have pointed out to me that I haven't posted anything in awhile. I'll admit, I've been lazy but I do have a slew of posts that I have been forming in my brain and wanting to put up. I promise to try and do some "consistent" blogging from now on, even if that means I'm posting up crap.

Now that the apology is over with, I have something fairly new from the Adult Swim camp. If you don't know much about Adult Swim, read it about it here. But basically they're responsible for a lot of cartoon shows that some of our favorite rappers watch. For example, MF Doom got a whole bunch of the voice artists from adult swim to do pieces on the Danger Doom album.

Anyway, they have decided to release an album called Ghostly Swim for free and its actually pretty good. This one is more for the obscure heads out there, but give it a listen none the less. Check out the album here. They have a cool player that you can embed in your blog, but it started playing as soon as the page loaded and fucked me off so I took it out.

Leon Jean-Marie - Bed Of Nails

Oh London you have been busy. Last time I spoke about London I told you about a seemingly unknown talent called Estelle who now has gone to number one.

This time I'm here to talk about a new talent from the Prince School of Performing Arts called Leon Jean-Marie. He is interesting in that he writes, sings and plays his own instruments. I can't say that he reminds of anything that I can recall right now, but he has this interesting sound that is like a fusion of early rock (think Beatles), soul and pop.

Bed of Nails is the debut single off his upcoming album which believe it or not, is being produced by none other than Mark Ronson (I think by now everyone must be thinking I'm a huge Mark Ronson fanboy innit?). I must admit this song differs a lot from Mark Ronson's other stuff. Its more pop, less funk, but its definitely one you want to listen to.

Listen to it kids, trust me, it'll be good for you.
